Care of your Sterling Silver Jewelry:
What is Sterling Silver?
Sterling Silver is a precious metal that can be made to 100% Sterling Silver (just as gold). However, in this state the metal would become much too pliable and lead to an unstable piece of jewelry. To make the silver durable, a small amount of copper alloy (7.5%) is added and thus has become the expression ".925 Sterling Silver". You may have also seen the congruent terminology "92.5 % Silver" or "925 Sterling Silver". Each is acceptable in designation of a Sterling Silver item. All Sterling Silver jewelry should be stamped as such with a .925 imprint on the jewelry item. Certain exceptions may be made for very small or petite Sterling items in which there is no room for the .925 imprint.
Care of your Sterling Silver Jewelry:
All Sterling Silver Jewelry will accumulate a dull or brownish appearance over a period of time. This may also be referred to as "tarnish". It is completely natural for this to happen with all Sterling Silver Jewelry. The great thing is that with proper care, Sterling Silver can look brand new and last a life time! Our principal suggestion to reduce this natural oxidization process is preventative measures. We highly recommend the use of a "treated" polishing cloth (specifically for Sterling Silver Jewelry) on a regular basis. Do not use tissue or other materials that may scratch your Sterling Jewelry.
All of our Roman Glass pieces are authentic remnants uncovered on archeological sites throughout Israel. To preserve the patina (coloring of the glass), do not allow the glass to come in contact with water.
Do not use "Dips" on Sterling Jewelry - especially Sterling with porous and organic stones such as Roman Glass, turquoise, coral, pearls etc. Dips can permanently damage the stone surfaces.
Keep your Sterling Silver in "air-tight" baggies with minimum exposure to sunlight to reduce the exposure to air and decrease the oxidization process.
Do not shower with your jewelry on, do not expose your jewelry to lotions, hairspray, or chlorinated swimming pools. Remove all jewelry with stones before washing dishes (this can loosen the setting of the jewelry).
